Paul's good friend is filmmaker Philip Waller, who is currently in post-production on "Extinction Soup
." The film aims to pull the curtain back on the more than 70 million sharks killed each year for their fins. The demand for shark fin soup is so great that some species have already seen population declines of 90 percent or greater.
"Sharks have been around for nearly 400 million years, but at the current rate of overfishing they could be wiped out in a single human generation," said Peter Knights, director of WildAid
While over 100 countries have already banned shark finning - including, most recently, New Zealand
- films like "Extinction Soup" can go a long way to keeping that momentum moving forward.
