The legendary Joan Rivers passed away today after being taken off life support at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. She was 81.
Known for her skills as a comedian, fashion critic, host, and Hollywood red carpet maven, Rivers entertained generations of audiences with her wit, charm, and celebrity insights.
"I mock everybody, regardless of race, creed or color," she told the Toronto Star in July. "Every joke I make, no matter how tasteless, is there to draw attention to something I really care about."
Rivers was also a savvy businesswoman, who at age 76, successfully beat the competition on Donald Trump's "Celebrity Apprentice."
"She was a spectacular woman," Trump told CNN this afternoon after hearing of Rivers' passing. "She had unbelievable stamina."
Joan's daughter, Melissa, released a statement saying that her mother's greatest joy in life was making other people laugh. "Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon," she said.
As expected, tributes from other celebrities and organizations immediately started pouring in from around the Twitterverse.
