A week after Lady Gaga pledged $1M to the American Red Cross to benefit victims of Hurricane Sandy, the Dave Matthews Band has followed suit  - announcing today a similar donation and benefit concert on November 30th. 

 

"DMB’s winter tour opening concert on November 30th at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, NJ has become a benefit concert for Hurricane Sandy recovery," the group's official site states. "The benefit concert will feature special guest Jimmy Cliff and all proceeds, including ticket sales and merchandise, will go to the Bama Works Sandy Relief Fund. Proceeds from tickets that were purchased prior to the announcement of the benefit will also be donated to the Fund."

 

Bama Works is the charitable arm of DMB and was formed to primarily assist charitable programs in the Charlottesville, VA (where the group was formed). Since 1999, it's helped fund over $15M in grants for both national and international causes. 

 

Back in 2005, DMB joined forces with the Neville Brothers to raise cash for victims of Hurricane Katrina, still the costliest natural disaster ever to strike the United States. The sold-out show, with tickets ranging from $58.50 to $1,000, managed to raise over $1.25M.
