The Discovery Channel — ever-surprising in its ability to uncover intriguing characters with dangerous professions — has given the green light to "Game of Stones," a new series focused on the world of extreme gem hunting.
The show follows Don Kogen, who runs Gem Guys Inc
, a company that specializes in trading rare stones from lawless and dangerous places from around the world. Each episode will focus on a different country, with The Hollywood Reporter
citing Thailand, Turkey, India, Tanzania and Brazil as examples.
A quick look online shows Kogen and his crew are already well-experienced in the world of film, with more than 90 videos online
explaining the history and physical characteristics of gems from Blue Moon quartz to morganite.
Check out a trailer for "Game of Stones" below. The series premieres at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Feb. 28.
