Thanks to Philadelphia sports site CrossingBroad.com, we finally have the first pictures of Michael Vick's new dog Angel.
The 32-year-old Philadelphia Eagles' QB and former convicted dogfighter was snapped attending dog training classes at PetSmart with his family and a bodyguard. According to a source, Vick has signed up for a total of six classes on Monday evenings. We also finally know the breed of the pup - a Belgian Malinois (or Belgian Shepherd Dog).
Back in October, Vick admitted he had added the dog to his family after tweeting (and then deleting) a photo that revealed a box of Milk Bones on his kitchen table.
‘‘As a father, it is important to make sure my children develop a healthy relationship with animals. I want to ensure that my children establish a loving bond and treat all of God’s creatures with kindness and respect. Our pet is well cared for and loved as a member of our family.’’
Pics of Angel come as the Best Friend's Animal Society yesterday announced a reunion of 6 of the 22 dogs seized from the disgraced Vick's infamous Bad Newz Kennels over five years ago. 10 of the nicknamed "Vicktory Dogs" have gone on to loving homes, while the rest remain at Best Friends to continue rehabilitation from their horrendous dogfighting days.
"There were people early on who had an idea of what these dogs would be like; some people were nervous or scared. But we've shown that they're just like any other dogs," said Dogtown manager at Best Friends Michelle Besmehn. "They crave safety and comfort and companionship; they like playing with toys and going for walks. Many of them get along with other dogs, cats and other animals.
"There are always going to be people who are afraid of the idea of 'fighting pit bulls,' or dogs coming from fighting situations," she added. "But these dogs have really opened up the opportunity to show people that, look, they're just individual dogs with individual needs and different personalities."
The reunion will be held on March 11th. More details can be found here.
