Alana "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson, star of the TLC reality series "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo," has joined the Girl Scouts. 

 

The 7-year-old child beauty pageant participant recently became a Brownie, a division of the Scouts for girls in second and third grade. 

 

"On Monday, Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia welcomed 7-year-old celebrity Alana Thompson to Troop #60373,” the GSUSA told omg! in a statement. “Alana’s wish to become a Girl Scout came true when she officially joined the same troop in which her best friend, Destiny, is a member. Alana’s Girl Scout Leadership Experience will allow her to discover more about herself, connect in positive relationships with others and take action about the things that matter most to her. She will also be able to participate fully in the iconic Girl Scout Cookie Program, which teaches key business literacy skills and entrepreneurism.”

 

Alana's introduction to the Girl Scouts actually came after she attempted to help her local Brownie troop by promoting their Girl Scout Cookies on her Facebook page. The huge sales (thanks in large part to her more than 700,000 followers) caught the attention of the GSUSA, which pulled the plug on the online push. 

 

“Through an online sales approach, a girl doesn’t have the personal experience of asking someone to purchase her product,” GSUSA told omg! “She doesn’t have to learn the responsibility of handling the money and personally delivering the order. When you have canvassed your neighborhood and manned cookie booths for hours, you learn the value of a hard day’s work. There is also a strong feeling of accomplishment when you are personally engaged in the activity."

 

Shortly after, Alana hung out with the local troop and later decided that she wanted to join. 

 

“When we first started selling cookies, Alana hadn’t joined yet due to our busy schedule and we didn’t know if it was something she would truly be interested,” wrote her mother, June Shannon.
