It's hard to believe, but it's taken more than 58 days for someone to throw together a celebrity-backed television telethon for the Gulf oil spill disaster.

 

Thankfully, Larry King has stepped up and will be throwing a two-hour fundraiser, titled "Disaster in the Gulf: How You Can Help," on Monday, June 21, 8-10 p.m. EST on CNN. 

 

Ryan Seacrest will share hosting duties by taking over something called the "Tweet Suite" — which I can only imagine means this fundraiser will seek donations from the online world as well.

 

Celebs slated to appear on the show include Chelsea Handler, Sting, Tim McGraw, Kathy Griffin, Alyssa Milano, Deepak Chopra, Pete Wentz, Ted Danson, Robert Redford, Harry Connick Jr., Jenny McCarthy, Melania Trump, Ivanka Trump, Aaron Neville, Kerry Kennedy, James Carville and Mary Matalin, Anderson Cooper, Tyson Ritter, Lenny Kravitz, Ian Somerhalder, Jack Hanna, Sammy Kershaw and Philippe Cousteau.

 

Those donating will have three choices when it comes to supporting relief efforts in the Gulf. These include the United Way’s “Oil Spill Recovery Fund”, The Nature Conservancy’s “Fund for Gulf Coast Restoration”, and The National Wildlife Federation’s “Gulf Oil Spill Restoration Fund”.

 

Back in January, CNN's telethon for Haiti relief raised a record-breaking $5 million. Let's hope they get similar results for those in need in the Gulf.
