Earth Hour 2011 just got a bit sexier.
The World Wildlife Fund, which organizes the campaign each year, recently announced that Victoria's Secret model Miranda Kerr will take on the role of "global ambassador." The 27-year-old wife of actor Orlando Bloom, and a recent mother as well, has long embraced green issues on everything from whaling to rain forest conservation.
When asked what her ideal future looks like, the Aussie said, “Living in a solar-powered house with a veg patch out back.”
In a statement on the official Earth Hour blog, Kerr expressed her excitement for being chosen as the global ambassador. "Each of us has a responsibility for the sustainability of our planet and each of us can make a difference if we choose to do so," she said.
More than 126 countries participated in Earth Hour 2010, with an estimated 1 billion people observing the lights-out request. Iconic landmarks such as such as Big Ben, the Empire State Building, the Sydney Opera House, the Eiffel Tower, the Parthenon, the Brandenburg Gate and the Forbidden City all went dark.
This year's lights out is scheduled for Saturday, March 26 at 8:30 p.m. More details available at the official site here.
