With whale sharks and over 100,000 other sea creatures providing the backdrop, the Captain Planet Foundation held its annual fundraising gala at the Georgia Aquarium last week - honoring leaders in environmental stewardship and celebrating new initiative milestones.
“In a world of seven billion people, we’re going to have to find creative ways to create a more equitable and sustainable world for one another,” said Charles Orgbon III, one of the evening's honorees and CEO of the nonprofit Greening Forward. “And in our seven-billion population world, we’re going to have to find more sustainable and equitable ways to live together to meet the demands and the needs of all of these people, and the answer is being environmentalists.”
Joining Orgbon in receiving awards were consumer advocate Erin Brockovich, husband-and-wife climate change force David Suzuki and Tara Cullis, and TerraCycle founder and CEO Tom Szaky. Over $525,000 was raised during the evening to support the foundation's green projects in all 50 U.S. states and over 20 developing countries around the globe.
