According to Variety
, Ryan Reynolds has signed up to executive produce and narrate a new film about a baby killer whale that attempts to become friends with humans.
Called "The Whale", the film is also being executive produced by Reynolds' wife, actress Scarlett Johansson, and Eric Desatnik. From Variety:
"The Whale" is the true story of a baby killer whale, nicknamed Luna, who gets separated from his family on the rugged west coast of Vancouver Island. As rambunctious and surprising as a visitor from another planet, Luna endears himself to humans with his determination to make friends, which leads to laughter, conflict and unexpected consequences.
The Canadian actor reportedly signed on to the project because it’s set near his hometown of Vancouver, British Columbia. I'll bet it helped that it gives him the opportunity to work on a film with his wife as well.
There's no word yet on a release date, but I'd expect the film to hit the documentary circuit sometime in late 2011.
