Last month's announcement that Ted Turner's Cartoon Network was teaming up with producer Don Murphy ("Transformers," "Natural Born Killers") to bring the "Captain Planet" series to the big screen was met with both excitement and dread. Could they really create something decent with the early '90s cartoon — especially in a live-action format?

Have no fear, Planeteers! A particularly well-timed short from should put to rest any concerns. It features (naturally) Oscar-nominated actor Don Cheadle as a belligerent version of the blue-skinned superhero going a little overboard with his powers to turn people into trees. Who knew Captain Planet could be such a badass? The clip also features Gillian Jacobs, Efren Ramirez and Brenda Song.

When he's not having some fun, Cheadle is quite involved in conservation issues. Last year, he was named a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Environmental Program and recently teamed with "Vampire Diaries" star Ian Somerhalder to represent the Alliance for Global Conservation.

"We really have a need for balance and wisdom in what we’re trying to do with this one Earth that we have," he said in June 2010. "And I was kinda brought into this because it is something that’s close to my heart, and something that, as a father, I’m very interested in.”

Due to language, this version of Captain Planet is not safe for work — so throw on the headphones and enjoy a laugh below.
