I`m afraid you are wrong. All things can be exaplained, every little detail on this planet and the rest of the universe can be explained, the problem is people are too busy looking at the end of their own noses. The questions is not the problem, the problem is the people not understanding the answers.

This is silly. It assumes that our understanding, brain power, or whatever you like to call it, is as complex as the most complex functioning in the cosmos. Absurd

Actually, in mathematics it is *proven* that there are facts (true propositions) that it is impossible to prove are true. Surprisingly, human thought is strangely limited by seemingly obvious claims like "all things can be explained". See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurt_G%C3%B6del for more on Kurt Godel and his incompleteness theorems.

I think Earth has many mysteries it will hide from humans. Some things God wants kept a secret. Earth has not revealed all her secrets. It makes life more interesting.

I learned recently about the moving stones on Death Valley. Should they make the list? Or isn't it real? Or was the explanation already confirmed? Loved the top 10, spend hours reading about the Kryptos afterwards! :)

Those moving stones have been explained, its the ground freezing and the wind, a combination of those two, nothing weird about it.

Would have thought that Oak Island in Nova Scotia (the money pit) would have made this list. 300 years and can still not figure out how the booby trapped pit was made and who it was made by, and what is supposedly there.

We are not alone in an empty universe. We are all linked by a common genetic string, that is why our blood can save the life of each other regardless of race or ethnic consideration. That great compatibility and commonality is profound. The secret of life and its ultimate purpose will be solved.

too bad that's not true. It might give me hope. Its not true though and IS something to consider. Type 0- blood can only receive 0- so the statement doesn't stand that "our blood can save the life of each other regardless of race or ethnic consideration. That great compatibility and commonality is profound." The FACT that most can receive from a few (very few) but the few cannot receive from most is profound though the pattern is not unique and really should be considered. Thanks for the.... More

CNN, you are usually pretty accurate with your articles, but this one on "Ten of the World's Biggest Unsolved Mysteries" should have been named "Nine of the world's......". The Shugborough inscription was solved by Arthur Middlebrooke in 1972. Arthur had been a code breaker in WWII, and in his retirement years, he set out to solve this riddle. It took nearly 4 years, but Arthur finally broke the code. The key was that Arthur realized that duplicate letters, (such as the 3 V's) did not all.... More

I much prefer A J Morton's work on the matter of the Shugborough "code".

"The odds against Shugborough residents Viscount Anson & M. Vernon-Venables (of Overley, Orgreave & Shugborough) being involved in the creation of a "code" containing the letters VAVV & OuOS are implausibly astronomical."
Mr Morton,in my opinion, cuts through the nonsense, his work is informative and to the point. It`s all just a "Google" away if you care to look.

Go figure

Few stories have the power to captivate us more than those that remain unresolved. Codes, puzzles and cryptic public art tease us with their intrigue: Why is their message coded? What great secrets might they hide? Despite the efforts of our most learned historians, cleverest cryptographers and most determined treasure hunters, history is replete with riddles that continue to confound us today. Fictional tales like those featured in “The Da Vinci Code” and the movie “National Treasure” have got nothing on these real-life puzzles. Here's our list of 10 of the world's most cryptic unsolved mysteries and codes. (Text: Bryan Nelson)
