I came on this site via stumble. I randomly chose this thread to follow. The fact that I walked through the Shugborough estate for the first time in 25 years this morning strikes me as a bit of a mystery, and pretty spooky too. This is also the first time I have seen it mentioned on the web.

The Holy Grail has been accepted by many as the womb of Mary that carried Jesus. Nothing more. Nothing less. And who says that this code has to mean anything?

The real one was remove in 1975 for a highway project. This one is located about a quarter mile east of the original. Made as complete as possible by a japanese artist in 1977

maybe theres something underneath it that need protecting and it looks like two guys trying to protect a chest full of someting. and the woan could be mary watching over them.

and.... what if the clouds arent clouds but smoke or what if it isnt smoke but mist. what if it isnt 3 Shepherd- because it looks like one of them is bearded. to me it looks like mom and dad and their 2 boys.... how about adam and eve in the garden of eden w/ cain and able trying to lever out of the gound this new found capstone and it seems they are trying to decipher the etchings on this capstone too.

How laughable to use the term "World's Greatest Minds" and the name Charles Darwin in the same sentence. Now, if you want to use the word "Fiction" you may include Darwin and Dickens! That is exactly what they both wrote! You may begin your meaningless rant now!

Three of the letters, D, V, and M could be Roman Numerals. So it could be a variation of the Roman date system with the day, month, and year the monument was built. If so, it could be set in one of many orders like MDY or YMD.

Well the monument is encrypted but i have my doubts that the sequence of alphabets is a code, i mean a code for decoding.I don't see any reason for a code to be encrypted on this monument, as the carving is depicting some situation, or occasion. Maybe the alphabets are sort of abbreviations, which the people or the sculptural could understand, or maybe a word that defines something, which people of that time could understand if not generally then on a small scale at least. point for a code that requires decoding on such monuments, it was a way of art during those times. We often see encryption's like this on Egyptians mummies, which still remains a mystery. But a mystery because we have self determined that they are codes.The codes for decoding might not be suitable for these sort of monuments, as people of that era had a subtle way of expressing their ceremonies, cultural heritage. Most probably a piece of aesthetics, which contains random alphabets which might make sense for the people of that time. Maybe they are representing some spiritual meanings which might not be known to us, but for people during the era of ancient time it made sense--Well i m not really sure,but this is what my conclusion is--I might be wrong---

if we read the letter from left to right and down to up then may be it refer to -" was a son of D" dont know wat D refers to as the picture is not clear.. :)

Doesn't it seem ridiculous to even attempt to solve a "code" of 10 letters? It's not exactly a word-scramble. It's probably just somebodies name.

It's "Knights Templar", not "Knights OF Templar". It's like attorneys general, courts martial, and mothers-in-law.

the letters is reffering of "compagnon" and "notables" who have made and commanded this object : you can see the symbol-flower of the catholic-templar upside and the number means the quality of the guest/owners (secret conspiration for the love of their god(s) ) : nothing proove that it was europeen art ...
Shugborough inscription
Look from afar at the 18th-century Shepherd's Monument in Staffordshire, England, and you might take it as nothing more than a sculpted re-creation of Nicolas Poussin's famous painting, “Arcadian Shepherds.” Look closer, though, and you'll notice a curious sequence of letters: DOUOSVAVVM — a code that has eluded decipherment for over 250 years.
Though the identity of the code carver remains a mystery, some have speculated that the code could be a clue left behind by the Knights Templar about the whereabouts of the Holy Grail.
Many of the world's greatest minds have tried to crack the code and failed, including Charles Dickens and Charles Darwin.
