This Savannah, Ga., fest always takes place a week before SXSW, so it’s the perfect primer for people who are headed to Austin. Not only do fans from the Southeast use the Stopover to get excited about the following week's big event in Texas, but many bands stop in Savannah for a pre-SXSW warm-up. There are few big names on the schedule, but virtually every act has gotten a great deal of buzz on music blogs and indie music podcasts. So if you want to see the "next best thing" before everyone else (even before SXSW attendees), then come to Savannah in early March. With three-day passes well under $100 (and even VIP passes just over $100), this is a reasonable weekend in terms of cost as well as musical quality.
