Fiji mermaid
This incredible-looking creature was a P.T. Barnum museum staple, fooling hundreds of people into believing it was the mummified remains of a real mermaid. Despite its outrageous construction, many people believed it was genuine until it was revealed to be nothing more than the torso and head of a baby monkey attached to the tail of a fish.
