In addition to hosting the ever-popular swimming events (including diving and synchronised swimming), the Aquatics Centre will serve as the gateway for more than two-thirds of visitors entering Olympic Park during the games.

Designed by prominent Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid, the striking, wave-like building is equipped with a lap pool, a diving pool and a warm-up pool. A temporary water polo arena will also be constructed next door.

After the Games, the facility — which was completed in July 2011 — will become a destination for local aquatic clubs and schools, as well as for elite swimmers.
