Adam Perry Lang's Serious Barbecue: Building a handcrafted bar on the Jimmy Kimmel Live! back lot
What better place to enjoy a glass of high quality whisky at the culmination of Adam Perry Lang's Serious Barbecue tour than a handcrafted bar? As the chef arrives in Los Angeles after crafting his own artisan barbecue knife, touring the George Dickel Tennessee Whisky distillery and making his own mesquite charcoal, he sets out to build the ultimate bar for his mobile dining experience on the back lot of the "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" show.
In this video, Lang teams up with Jimmy Diresta, master carpenter for George Dickel, to build a custom bar with an urban country feel that could almost make his guests forget they're enjoying his slow-cooked barbecue in the heart of Hollywood.
"When I think barbecue, I think whisky. It's my go-to drink. It just matches up well," says Lang.
For both the whisky that goes into his sauce, and the creation of an authentic-looking bar in just a day, working with George Dickel is a natural collaboration. Jimmy Diresta stains plywood and pine with a dark, distressed finish to make it look like it has been around for a while. Reclaimed pallets make up the back bar.
