Bible's New Testament filled with forgeries
New book by a former evangelical Christian says that nearly half of the Bible's New Testament has been forged.

For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whoever shall believe in him shall have life, and life everafter. Hes just a prayer away.... and God Loves You, yes you.
You mean a religious text ISN'T completely fact?
Stop the presses!
First off...Writers like Paul, had scribes for part of the time he wrote these books, thus proving the first statement of Paul's writings changing inaccurate. Second, a persons writings can change. For example when I was younger I use to write my 2s with the loop at the end, however, I no longer do that. I make them look like a like this, (2). Does this make my old writings from grade school a fraud? That maybe I had someone else do them? Or maybe someone else does them now? No, I changed my.... More
Regardless, the Bible has served its purpose (brought many closer to God) and will continue as well. Check the statistics. NO ONE can deny or critique that...christian or atheist.I feel confident God edited the Bible exactly how he wanted it to be. Gods will be done.
Yes the bible does serve a purpose however you cant say that God edited the bible to say what he wanted. If you concede that the bible was changed by humans then you must also concede that the Bible's meaning could be flawed, for God gave humans free will and therefore DOES NOT control peoples actions (the act of changing words in this case). And because men are sinners and not flawless then the actual text of the Bible is flawed as well because it has the influences of the editors personal.... More

I agree with you completely. The Bible is God's Word. He wrote it.
Ehrman, a professor of religious studies at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill is definitely just one of the innumerable wise and prudent human beings who read the Bible and never came close to understanding its true, profound and divine revelations. Like the rest, he read the Bible for one purpose: to find flaws he expected to discover and then write about it to prove himself a wise eclectic truth-seeker. People like him will never receive the Wisdom of God which only His Word.... More
If God wanted to write a book he didn't want edited to serve the petty desires of men, why didn't he write it on the moon, for all to see? If it brings you closer to your ideal of God, more power to you, but the book was obviously written by men, not by supernatural deities.
But God isn't real...
To anyone who has followed critical biblical scholarship for the last two hundred years this is not news. The only people who will find this shocking is biblical fundamentalists, and they won't believe it anyway.
Thou art god. Grok? All are god. As god, i condemn worshiping me. Do good works, accept others as you and me, have compassion, experience love towards all and come home to me. Otherwise, you are off track, but still welcomed home when you get here. Thank you.
Much love,
me...you...us...one...
If only people put as much effort into disproving the Quran.
Really? Well to comment on your statement, "If only people put as much effort into disproving the Qur'an"-simply put- then there would be a whole lot more Muslims in this world. One can try to debunk it, but will fail miserably. Then that person will question their faith, and hate themselves for it, and either appreciate Islam and practice their own religion, and/or convert to Islam. Trust me, thats what happened to me. Scientist and scholars have great respect for this Holy book, and so should.... More
It is quite simple, Jesus is either in your heart or he isn't. period. Since when do you need a book to tell you the feelings you have within yourelf...
... the bible is quite obviously a book filled with metaphorical stories to teach lessons, which mix in history and (what was thought to be) science from and for the times it was written. Allot of them are pretty good lessons- some are horrifying- but most (the big ones) tend to be alright. Just use stories to relay the point across. I completely get that.
BUT, then you have these people who take every word literally- these people say bible is the word of "God"... it's written by men.... More
I like the attitude you portray that people can believe whatever they want (to an extent) however the main point in the bibles messages are not nice. If you dont believe in me you will be forever in pain. This as we know is not the exact message but along those lines.
The point that people should or do know that it was written by man why should it be respected believed. I do think that people who do take it to the word are very damaging to society, it was not until people challenged these.... More
somone finally had the guts to say that "the bible" is what it is... a collection of lies, forgeries and out and out fairy tales.
well, thats all...just read it.
The fact is that the New Testament is the Good News that Jesus is the only begotten Son of God Almighty and he was born of virgin Mary and became man. He suffered, died a horrific death. On the 3rd day HE rose from death (defeated death that we have hope of not dying the ultimate death..separation from God Almighty. debates among simple men and women here is simply stupidity. If you want to know the truth then follow Jesus plain and simple.
Romans3: 3,4
Keep regurgitating. It's not really necessary to form your own thoughts.
But if the Bible, claimed to be infallible by Christians, IS fallible, then Christianity has nowhere to stand. Yahweh exists because the Bible says He does, as this is the only proof we have of Him, and the Bible is true because He says it's His word. If the Bible isn't true, then Christianity is built on a shaky and crumbling foundation.
Perhaps, then again, perhaps not. You can't prove the existence of your particular version of God, nor can anyone disapprove it. It shouldn't matter. Believe what you will or disbelieve, whatever. Still, in the end, wouldn't any God welcome questions and exploration..... an open mind?
Genesis 6:4 "when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown."
"There were giants in the earth in those days." 6:4
Which of the two were greater, i wonder? The sons of gods or the giants in the earth.
God decides to kill all living things because the human imagination is evil. 6:5
So, the sons of gods were killed for their imagination was evil but not the giants in the earth? I guess the giants in the earth are far greater than god made men. God aint much. Giants for the win.
If you want to follow me then sell everything you own. That includes your nice house, iPod, your golf clubs, and your gas guzzling SUV you drive. Give all the money to the poor, whether you think they deserve it or not. Spend less money on yourself and your children and more helping people that need help.
I don't think the word 'fact' means what you think it means.
Mankind will not be free until the last king has been strangled with the entrails of the last priest...
Literally, and immediately. Ignorance is not bliss, it is vile and putrid and full of hate like the minds it infests.
There is Christianity. There is Paulism. Saul/Paul was Jew Pharisee, a man known to hate Christians and Christianity. He also had little caring for Gentiles. Yet suddenly one day he starts teaching a Religion he hated to people he had little caring for. Saul was never told by God of Abraham, or Jesus, or any human to go and teach Gentiles so to save them. Saul had a dark agenda of his own, to use Christianity as bait to lure Gentiles out and away from their own Religions and ways and into.... More
The beauty of Saul's life was that he was a murderer..A wretched man who killed innocent women and children for what he believed to be a righteous crusade. The bible uses Saul as a vessel and an example for even the lowest individuals that they can change by repenting and accepting the Saviour..and that is what Saul did..People living today should take Saul's life and testaments and know that the Most High doesn't care where you are in your life or the mistakes you've made. Repent and change..... More

Look at all the progressives getting their hate on! Be patient communist soldiers and soon you will be able to eradicate everyone that doesn't think the way you want them to think. Your time has come!
Communist soldiers? Just because someone doesnt believe in god and thinks that the bible is rubbish? Were you around during the time the events of the bible happened?(obvious answer) So everything you go to church for is based off of all BELIEFS and FAITH. There is no way around that. I respect peoples religions even though being an atheist myself. But i see reading the bible(Which i have) as being a fiction/fantasy book.
Often in the entire canon, certain works are attributed to a particular author who did not actually write the text but was through various translations and transliteration ended up being a pat of a book written by the attributed author, e.g., two different accounts of the creation of the world in Genesis attributed as one of five books by Moses but clearly written by two different writers in two different periods of history. Does this change the inspired nature of the word of God? No, i only.... More
Mr. Ehrman is about 1700 years late to the game.
It is well-documented that the Council of Nicea used rounds of VOTES to decide what would ultimately turn into the NT. There was lots of political wrangling, lots of money changed hands, and at least one murder can be attributed to how the stories were cobbled together.
In addition, it has been well-documented for many hundreds of years that the stories are cobbled together from various religions of the area. Christianity is not.... More
Prof. Ehrmann has already dealt with this issue (the voting at the Council of Nicea) and many other elements of early Christian history in his other books (there are about 10 of them), some of which include texts that did not make it past the voting into the New Testament, and others which analyze the changing view of Jesus and notion of "end times" and what effect that had. Paul evidently believed that most people living in his day would still be alive at Christ's return. A century or so.... More
Long Greek sentences vs. short one? Pretty flimsy and biased. I come from a family of Bible scholars (with Doctorates), and this story really misrepresents the Bible. Almost always, it has to do with people trying to bash Christians or justify their atheism. Blah, blah, blah. Tired of the intolerant attitude toward Christians.
...it's a forgery. The entire book is a forgery. It's attributed to a non-existent supernatural entity.
Biblical scholars have been saying for YEARS that the NT's authors aren't always who they claim to be. My junior year theology teacher in high school actually had us memorize which books were most likely written by the authors attributed to them and which were least likely. This isn't news.
As I, and others, have said many times, the babble is a badly-translated, politically-edited collection of myths and lies.
To be fair, some of the discrepancies are probably the result of translation errors made by different people at different times. That doesn't change the fact that it is all myths and lies..
Most of the problems of the world are, and always have been, caused by religion. For example, Northern Ireland, the Middle East, 9/11, and family planning clinic bombing.... More
I totally agree that religion is historically speaking the worlds leading cause of death but I had to bring up the Ireland thing. A little research will tell you that religion was and is generally the visible dividing line but there were and are nationalist Protestants and there might even be a few loyalist Catholics. The bottom line is that England occupied Ireland centuries ago, subjugated the native population, and to this day refuses to completely leave. The republicans fought for freedom.... More
An important point to be made here is that the points made in Ehrman's books are not simply "claims" that he makes. Rather Ehrman (as he himself repeatedly makes clear) is simply stating the standard views held by mainstream NT scholarship for more than a century.
One, of course, is free to disagree with those views. But to dismiss these views as simply something "that Ehrman come up with" is, well, just plain wrong.
Maybe, the aruthor should give a look see at the debate Bart Ehrman had with Mike Licona on the historical evidence for the resurrection... It didn't turn out too well for Bart.
You and I must have not watched the same debate. Bart PWND him..... in multiple instances. It is as if the "second guesser" was not even listening to the facts and questions that he was being asked to explain.
