Odette Annable: 'Breaking In' star is eco-conscious on set and at home

She's tough on and off screen — but not when it comes to being green or her love for rescuing animals.

"I think every set is trying to cut down on water bottles. We bring our own bottles and refill them," says Odette Annable of Fox's "Breaking In," who is similarly conscious at home, where she and husband Dave ("Brothers & Sisters") have recycling bins, switched to energy-saving light bulbs and take reusable bags to the market. "It's all about the little things," she says. The couple also rescues dogs. "That's sort of our hobby. Whenever we see rescues we bring 'em in and give them a better home."

In "Breaking In," about a security team that stages break-ins to expose potential client's vulnerable spots, Annable plays Melanie Green, the sole female crew member and "the coolest geek on the show, picking locks and riding motorcycles. She's a tough girl. She's really an independent spirit, and she's got to put up with all of these guys and hold her own."

While she's had roles on TV dramas like "October Road" and "Brothers & Sisters," playing her husband's love interest, Annable was eager to do a comedy, even though "it's the scariest thing that I've ever done. Usually when something terrifies me, it's something that I should go after, and it's such a pleasure to be a part of this."

She'll be back in drama mode in the spy thriller "The Double" later this year, with Topher Grace, Martin Sheen, Stephen Moyer and Richard Gere. As Grace's wife, she'll be on familiar ground in a male-centric cast.
