'Treasure Hunt Blue Marine'
An icy mermaid holding a globe appears to defy gravity in this fantastical ice sculpture called "Treasure Hunt Blue Marine," which won first place in the Single Block Classic of the World Ice Art Championships on March 2 at the George Horner Ice Park in Fairbanks, Alaska.
 
The 23rd annual World Ice Art Championships — a month-long celebration of all things ice — draws more than 70 teams from around the world to participate in the ice sculpture competition, which is divided into the Single Block Classic, the Multi-block Classic, the Amateur Open Exhibition and the Youth Classic.

'Prickly Reception'
A porcupine wields its sharp spines while greeting a snarling leopard in the ice sculpture "Prickly Reception," which took home first place in the Multi-block Classic at the World Ice Art Championships on March 10.
 
Some 45,000 visitors descend on the park each year to watch the competition and play around in the on-site ice mazes, ice slides, and skating rink. The frosty masterpieces will be on display in Fairbanks until March 25.
