On St. Patrick's Day, everyone is Irish, wearing green for luck and toasting friends and loved ones in joyful and sometimes raucous festivities. These St. Patrick's Day quotes celebrate the true spirit of the holiday – the beauty of the Emerald Isle and the tenacity of its people, with blessings of health and happiness and songs that are best accompanied by a pint of ale.

St. Patrick -- one of the few saints whose feast day presents the opportunity to get determinedly whacked and make a fool of oneself all under the guise of acting Irish.
Charles M. Madigan, columnist at The Chicago Tribune

For each petal on the shamrock
This brings a wish your way -
Good health, good luck, and happiness
For today and every day.
Irish blessing

There are only two kinds of people in the world, The Irish and those who wish they were.
Irish saying

If you're lucky enough to be Irish... you're lucky enough!
Irish saying

For 'tis green, green, green, where the ruined towers are gray,
And it's green, green, green, all the happy night and day;
Green of leaf and green of sod, green of ivy on the wall,
And the blessed Irish shamrock with the fairest green of all.
Mary Elizabeth Blake, poet, written in “The Dawning o' the Year

May your blessings outnumber
The shamrocks that grow,
And may trouble avoid you
Wherever you go.
Irish blessing

There's a dear little plant that grows in our Isle,
'Twas Saint Patrick himself sure that set it;
And the sun on his labor with pleasure did smile,
And with dew from his eye often wet it.
It shines thro' the bog thro' the brake, thro' the mireland,
And he called it the dear little Shamrock of Ireland.
Andrew Cherry, from the song The Dear Little Shamrock

Leprechauns, castles, good luck and laughter.
Lullabies, dreams and love ever after.
A thousand welcomes when anyone comes...
That's the Irish for You!
Irish saying

Oh, the music in the air!
An' the joy that's ivrywhere -
Shure, the whole blue vault of heaven is wan grand triumphal arch,
An' the earth below is gay
Wid its tender green th'-day,
Fur the whole world is Irish on the Seventeenth o' March!
Thomas Augustin Daly, Poet

May your thoughts be as glad as the shamrocks. May your heart be as light as a song. May each day bring you bright, happy hours. That stay with you all the year long.
Irish blessing
