Barber gives free haircuts to homeless, asks for hugs in return
Every Wednesday 82-year-old Joe Cymerys sets up shop in Connecticut’s Bushnell Park and gives free haircuts to the homeless. All he asks for in return is a hug.
“Joe the barber,” as he’s known at the park, is a retired real estate investor, but 25 years ago he saw people in need and decided to do something about it.
His clientele don’t just get haircuts — they get the full salon treatment, complete with scalp massages and moisturizing aftershave. They also get a weekly reminder that someone cares.
