A Utah middle school student was sent home from school because of her hair color.

Make me the head of the Department of Education. I would fire half of the school administrators in the nation, and forbid any "zero-tolerance" rules or any stupid rules that violate the students' civil rights. We have punished more good or honor students with "zero tolerance" and other stupid, authoritarian rules than we have slackers. hire back their librarians. Plus, I would encourage nonworking parents to volunteer in the schools. The elderly, too. I would create a mentoriship program whereby older students are responsible for younger ones, student government councils that have some teeth, and allow students to become voting members of the PTA. I am a librarian and have a lot of opinions about how to improve education in this country, and punishing good students for their hair color isn't one of them!
