A moment of zen
Everyone has an opinion about what makes a great beach bar. For some, a large dance floor and a covered open-air seating area are necessary. For others, the best venues are right on the sand and consist of nothing more than a shack with a cooler, a worn counter and a few chairs.
But there are some traits that are universally admired, like a good view. If you can't watch a sunset over the water with a drink in hand, you probably aren't going to linger long. (Who comes to the seashore to sit in an air-conditioned bar?) The best venues have an open-air design or at the very least, they're partially open and have a large patio fronting the water.
Here are a few of our favorite beach bars. (Text: Josh Lew)
