Belo Horizonte

Just to the north of Rio and São Paulo, Belo Horizonte, the capital of Minas Gerais state, has a population of 2.5 million (5 million in the wider metro area). Significant improvements have been made to the city in the past few years. Wide, tree-lined avenues, decent public transportation, and a variety of museums and parks have earned BH an image as one of Brazil's most pleasant places. The local stadium, Estádio Mineirão, will host the second World Cup semifinal in addition to several early round games.
