Far from the heavily populated East Coast, Cuiaba sits in western Brazil in what is considered the geographic center of South America. The city has about 500,000 residents, and it is at the heart of Brazil's economically important cattle industry. Though Cuiaba is a modern city, it is not uncommon to see people walking on the street in cowboy attire. The tourist scene here revolves around the Pantanal wetlands. Visitors use the city as a base for exploring this wildlife-rich swamplands. Cuiaba's Arena Pantanal will host four matches during the group stage of the World Cup.
