The third northeastern World Cup host city is Natal. Capital of the Rio Grande do Norte state, it has nearly a million residents inside the city proper. The area around Natal is known for its extensive dunes. This unique landscape can be accessed easily from the Via Costeira (Coastal Road), which stretches along the oceanfront for more than 6 miles. Natal's best hotels are in the area. Beaches and historic buildings (some dating back to the 16th century) earn Natal a spot on many northeast travelers' itineraries. Arena das Dunas (Dunes Arena) is a newly opened stadium that will host four group stage matches during the Cup.
