Recife is another host city in Brazil's northeast. A metropolis of beaches, history and always pleasant temperatures, it is definitely a viable alternative to the more hectic, hotter southern beach cities. Boa Viagem, widely considered one of the best beaches in northern Brazil (sometimes called the Copacabana of the North), sits right on the edge of the city. Many of Recife's best hotels are directly across from the sand. Like Salvador, the Old Town of Recife is a popular attraction, while the wide avenues and parks give the city a pleasant atmosphere. The new multipurpose Arena Pernambuco will see several early round matches during the World Cup.
