Phi Phi IslandsThe islands came to worldwide prominence when they were featured in the 2000 British-American film "The Beach" (to this day, filmmakers are being blamed for damaging the local environment), and today they are one of the major destinations for visitors to Thailand. This picturesque place still has pristine beaches and clear water, but it may not have them for long if resort development and travelers continue to flock here en masse.

Im thai, and i used to live here, now i've moved to england by getting into someones suitcase.
Actually, these islands were already trashed by development prior to the film. The film makers removed tonnes of rubbish before filming, and left the island in a much better state when they left than when they arrived.
The Thais will exploit anything for money, and don't care about the islands at all.
