Mister Holmes, was not referring to well behaved people of whom love to enjoy life in visiting historical cities. When a child, this city had visitors that were retained in polite mannerisms and dress---all respective in public appearance.

The late Oliver Wendell Holmes of the Supreme Court:" Tourist are nothing less than universal tramps".

Sure, Mister Holmes, was not referring to well behaved people of whom love to enjoy life in visiting historical cities. When a child, this city had visitors that were retained in polite mannerisms and dress---all respective in public appearance.

Times have changed! All cities across America are trying to recapture monies idly spent on social engineering proclivities.. The gangs.... More

Many cities in the world, including once-beautiful Montreal, are being defaced, and some utterly degraded. by nightime graffiti taggers and vandals who also scratch permanent markings on public and private windows, destroying the beauty and symmetry of a buldings' facades, often permanently, especially when the city authorities do not do anything to curb the scourge, and if they do, often hand out puny fines.

Can you post a link to an article on "10 places to visit before they vanish" on the same page as an article on sites being ruined by tourism, and still be taken seriously?

Why is it everytime people begin to travel to a destination for it's beauty, history, culture and the gifts it may bring into our lives as a memory people have to complain it's being ruined? NOTHING lasts forever and by giving people a chance to experience a place and pass experiences along to future generations; they are carrying on the legacy. More places are destroyed by the good-doers that THINK they know how to FIX everything then those who respectfully travel somewhere and take the time.... More

Mushrooms were made illegal here because tourists were using them irresponsibly.

Not to mention that Amsterdam is now an unpleasant place to visit because of all the loud drunk tourists.

Ruined I tell you.

Americans FIX everything for the rest of the world you idiot. And I, for one, am sick and tired of paying and paying for every disaster that hits other countries and Americans with any brains at all are all sick of being robbed by the lousy UN that takes credit for all our generosity. You try feeding, fixing, clothing, vaccinating, educating, healing and cleaning up after the whole world for no thanks. I hope you aren't an American. You spell like some 3rd world ingrate who never attended the.... More

Treading lightly

Travel and the freedom of movement are some of the great equalizers in the world. It allows people to discover different cultures, to learn about exotic places and grasp the grand scheme of Earth's entwined ecology. But as we explore the Earth, we must remember to tread lightly. Tourism is good for people, but it isn't always good for the landscape. Some of the most beautiful places in the world are being marred by too many visitors. Here's our list of the top 15 travel destinations being ruined by tourism. (Text: Bryan Nelson)
