For some people, a vacation during any season other than summer just isn't a possibility. Because of work commitments or children's school schedules, fall, winter and spring are not viable travel seasons. The answer for this demographic: Head to destinations that experience their peak season during the winter. Many of Colorado's ski resorts have begun to welcome non-skiers who want to visit the scenic slopes during the summertime. From alpine mountain biking adventures to summertime ski lift rides, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the Rockies without snow. The popular ski destination of Steamboat Springs, for example, offers horseback riding and trekking in addition to alpine slides and mountain bike trails. These features do draw visitors, but definitely not in the same numbers as ski season. This is one of the most scenic regions in the country, and certainly worth a trip for anyone who loves alpine landscapes and yearns for outdoor adventure.
