Tombstone House

It may look like a normal house, but this Petersburg, Va., home was constructed from the tombstones of the 2,200 Union soldiers who died in the siege of Petersburg. The story is that in 1934, cost-cutting efforts during the Great Depression forced cemetery workers to uproot the tombstones, cut off their lower portions and lay them flat on the ground. Oswald Young then bought the bases for $45 and built the Tombstone House.
