They forgot to mention any of the caves in the Cayo district of Belize, many are open to the public, with a guide of course and all are at least as impressive as any of the others mentioned.

Near the Grand Canyon is a series of caves that rival any of these shown here

the lava beds national monument in northern California is one of the most interesting cave formations in the u.s. its history is also what makes it unique.it was the last stand of the Indian wars and the only battle in which a general was killed.located just outside of Tulelake,Cal.near the Oregon border.it has one cave called the Mushpot cave that is volcanic, and also an ice cave.easy to get to and worth the effort to see.

I love caves and think this is a magnificent photo display!

The only cave I ever visited was abutting five [I believe] southern US states. I can't remember the name but it had an elevator leading down and up. The stalagmites and stalactites were absolutely amazing and fascinating. They told a story unto themselves of the eons it required for them to reach from bottom to top of the cave. I believe that more people need to see these "other world" structures.

If anyone can tell.... More

I believe You might be thinking of Howe's Caverns in New York State. They do indeed have an elevator that takes you down deep inside. Worth a looking up. Have a great day. =)

Beautiful pictures! This is a great idea for a post, exposing campers to the possibilities of caving-a unique adventure many don't know about. It's cool that both international and domestic caves were mentioned! Good work

Waitomo Glowworm Cave

The Waitomo Glowworm Cave is located in the Waikato region of New Zealand's North Island. It is part of the Waitomo Caves system, which includes Ruakuri Cave and Aranui Cave. As the name suggests, the cave serves as the home to glowworms, specifically Arachnocampa luminosa, which are a type of fungus gnat species that glow in their larval stage. Because it was underwater 30 million years ago, the cave is made from limestone composed of fossilized shells, skeletons and coral.
