Beitou Hot Springs, Taipei, Taiwan

The Beitou Hot Springs area is one of the most accessible destinations on our list. Located in the northern districts of the Taiwanese city of Taipei, this area is popular with tourists and locals alike. Beitou can be reached by bus and on the city's expansive MRT train network. There are a wide range of bathing options here, from traditional baths to large outdoor pools to more resort-like venues that offer sleek surroundings and additional spa services. The lush surroundings and steam and sulfur clouds create a unique atmosphere. A complete Beitou experience should include a hike along the area's trails. Tea houses, public parks, gardens and traditional temples are also part of the landscape. There is even a Hot Springs Museum that traces the history of the relationship between people and the springs. The springs are definitely worth a day trip, though the quality hotels in the area make it possible to base yourself in Beitou when visiting Taipei.
