Rotorua, New Zealand

This New Zealand town sits in an active volcanic zone. It features a number of hot springs resorts and spas. The Waikite Valley Thermal Pools draw their water from a spring that produces boiling water that is cooled to just below 100 degrees. The Waikite complex features a number of pools, large and small, all filled with natural, untreated water direct from the spring. The five-star Polynesian Spa is an option for those who want a complete menu of spa treatments. On the other end of the Rotorua area's spectrum is Butcher's Pool, a free hot springs pool in rural Reporoa. Dozens of other similar pools are located in the Rotorua area and in neighboring Taupo.
