Charit Creek is primitive but lovely. I once slept in the old corn crib that is the cook's accommodation.

Another great set of lodges (not a hotel though -- more for serious hikers looking for a an unusually nice place to stay on the trail) are the high mountain huts run by the Appalachian Mountain Club in New Hampshire.

Charit Creek

Located deep within the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area in Tennessee, the Charit Creek Lodge is only accessible by horseback, foot or mountain bike. Hunter Jonathan Blevins erected the first cabin, which still stands today, in 1817. After serving as a youth hostel for a couple years, the lodge is now a full-service accommodation open to all.
