After the International Day of Climate Action

What did you do on Oct. 24, the International Day of Climate Action? And what will you do now as we get closer to the Copenhagen climate talks?

What did you do on Saturday, the International Day of Climate Action? More than 5,200 rallies happened in 180+ nations, calling for action to put our world on course to get back to 350 ppm (parts per million), the number that leading scientists say is the safe upper limit for carbon dioxide in our atmosphere to avoid runaway climate change.

Volunteers at Blogger Beach Cleanup

For MNN readers and other environmental activists in the L.A. area, I helped organize a Blogger Beach Cleanup in Santa Monica with Sara Bayles, who blogs about her near-daily beach cleanups at The Daily Ocean. More than 100 people turned out to both spiff up the beach and put their efforts toward a collective call to enviro-action! See what fun ensued in this video of the clean-up put together by Eco-Vegan Gal.

The International Day of Climate Action was organized through 350.org, headed up by Deep Economy author Bill McKibben. Wondering what's next for 350.org and climate action? Well, the big event we're all preparing for now is the Copenhagen climate talks in December, when the treaty to replace the Kyoto Treaty will be hashed out. Make sure your voice is heard in this process by staying active with:

  >> 350.org. Sign up for this campaign's e-mail list not only to stay on top of climate change issues, but also to call on world leaders to sign "an ambitious, fair, and binding global climate deal."

>> TckTckTck. This global alliance brings together both groups and individuals specifically to get people speaking out to shape what happens at the Copenhagen talks. Like 350.org, TckTckTck invites you to call on your climate leaders "for an ambitious, fair and binding climate change agreement."

>>BeyondTalk. The Yes Men have put their fame behind this site, which lets you pledge to engage in civil disobedience to push for a strong climate agreement at the Copenhagen talks. I've signed up -- will you?

Thanks for mentioning us!

A great time was had by all on Saturday at 350 around the globe. At TckTckTck, we're super-psyched about the day's success.
