Stephen Colbert Jr. joins the polar bear, beluga whale, gray wolf and a host of other endangered species at educational ringtone site RareEarthtones.com.
“We’re honored to be able to bring the sound of the world’s most famous bald eagle to the public for the first time in history,” said Peter Galvin, conservation director at the Center. “He’s an excellent endangered species ambassador. Our gallery of photos has more images of Stephen Colbert, Jr. than anywhere else in the world. Not only is this his global audio debut, it’s also the finest collection of Colbert, Jr. photos ever assembled.”
Of the recording, RareEarthtones.com says,
The Colbert, Jr. audio recording featured as a ringtone on the site is the world’s only known recording of the celebrity raptor’s voice, which most say is at least as distinctive as that of his father, Colbert, Sr. Many listeners even detect a note of sarcasm — or at least irony — in Colbert, Jr.’s high-pitched cry.
Stephen Colbert Jr. was hatched as part of the San Francisco Zoo’s California Bald Eagle Recovery Program and was adopted by Stephen Colbert Sr. of Comedy Central fame as his ‘son’. Junior, equipped with a blue tag and GPS unit, was released into the wild when he was less than two months old and was spotted all over the West Coast by eagle-eyed trackers until he returned to the Channel Islands in 2008.

Do other eagle's laugh at Stephen Colbert Jr.?
Surely most readers of this website know that Stephen Colbert Jr's voice is actually that of a Red Tailed Hawk. Eagles make no such sound. However, it would be interesting to put the ringtone on my phone to see if I could get the attention of Red Tailed Hawks while trying to photograph them.
