Behind the Scenes: Captain Planet, The Movie?

Captain Planet

After the overwhelming success of the Captain Planet TV series, the wheels were set in motion to make a Captain Planet feature film in the mid-90s.  The film never came to fruition, but here's a sneak peek at what it would have looked like.  (Nick Scott/MNN)

I cling too that design. I'm from Brazil and I'm proud to be a member of the Brazilian team! I'll send my ideas for Turner, or Nick! Does anyone have the e-mail them? Or the address may be.

Enter your comments here I think they should rather make the movie, if you will, I have great ideas and I'm riding my script. Of course, the players must be of the nationality of the characters and anything post apocalyptic stories, for God's sake! has so many things nowadays that can be used, science is now almost reaching the levels of fiction!

what about doing a captain planet movie like they new TMNT movie. there's alot that can be done without spending a huge amount. Avatar is a good example along with all the video game and comic book movies out there being done. There's no reason why Captian Planet should be left out. All the old cartoons are being done, why not? This could lead up to CGI or real movies like Marshall Bravestarr, The Thundercats and so on.

The Captain Planet movie sounds like a wonderful idea. A remake of the cartoon itself would be good too, as long as they don't make it like the recent Transformers cartoon. Watched majority of the versions and I still find generation 1 to be the best.

If there was ever a time for the return of Captain Planet, it would be now. The environment has been getting a lot of attention lately, so it fits the nation's general mindset.

The original is so cheezy, it should probably not go back on the air, but a special edition DVD would definitely sell. Every time I mention CP at least someone in the room says, "Aw, **** yeah!!" T-shirts would sell like hot cakes on college campuses. Give it a little while for his popularity to gain momentum,.... More

I think that if they did make it, they should keep the same characters but give them a total make over (like what was shown) make them fit into the 21st centuary more.
I reckon it is a cool idea!

I heard Kwame is originally from Africa which is undisputable but as to the country, I think Ghanaians are the only people on the continent with such names. I am a Ghanaian and Kwame is an Akan name. So Kwame is from Ghana not the other name mentioned. Thanks.

captain planet definitely still has a big fan base; i showed the store to my friends the other day, and they were excited to get cp shirts like me. i really hope they bring the idea for the movie back into the light and really make it possible.

So...they wanted to make the Matrix, but with Captain Planet.

Cyberpunk ecoterrorism ISN'T a terrible idea, but those are some pretty awful character designs. (Mohawks! Why all the mohawks?!) Very 90's, anyway. I mean, seriously. R Maggeddon??

I think Captain Planet could be remade today, but maybe with less racial stereotyping, and less green mullet, please? Green energy is a good thing to promote, but the storylines of the original show were just silly. Going back in time.... More

I grew up with this show! I looked forward to it every day after school. Making Captain Planet into a movie will be awesome. It must be made!

When I was reading about the ideas pitched for "Planet", the concept excited me. I can now see why this was thrown out.

The characters look incredibly dated. The whole idea is rotten.

What "planet" needed to be was a reimagining of the original story, but with the earth in a state slightly worse than we are in now. No over-the-top childish villains, no overt cartooniness, just 5 kids in their late teens/early 20s, who choose to stand against the destruction "plagueing their planet"..... More

Y'know, incase ted's reading, and does actually want a kid that grew up with the show to do something about this awesome franchise. And if my idea's ever ripped off, to show I'm the source. mrehehe.

The movie must be made!!! There is need for the message to be passed on to the next generation. The planet needs our help. It worked in the early 90's but seems to have died out when the series did too. I mean everyone made their own rings out of tinfoil in the hopes that captain planet would appear...aah those were the good old days.

What would the new Captain Planet look like? He kind of looks like a blue Kurt Russell from Big Trouble in Little China in the cartoons.

when i found out that captain planet was comming back i got so excited then i found out about the movie.
a lot of the kids these days are rood and have no sense of guilt about some of the things that they do. i think that this is because they weren't brought up in symplistic times with shows like captain planet to guide them in the right direction. i think that if we are going to change the path that the youth of today and perhaps tommorrow are taking we need to bring back shows like.... Hey Everyone at Turner,
The Captain Planet cells look stunning and would be perfect for an animated film! I love the concept laid out in the behind the scenes video. You should put a green light on this project. The fan base is still huge and the message is sorely needed for the next generation. I would go to the theatre at leat 3 times with 3 different friends. PLEASE DO THIS PROJECT~ I MISS CAPTAIN PLANET!!!

Thanks,
Kaleb Smith

I'd love to see this as a live action movie.

If they did a CP movie now it would make so much $$$$$
It would get so much free press cos everyone is concerned about the environment. It would encourage younger viewers to be more environmentally aware. Totally should do it!

I'd gladly write it-- be good to add that o my imdb page :P

Look how well Transformers did! And i remember in the mid-nineties a Power Rangers movie went big aswell. This would do really well for the old school market. As for the characters - no. Keep em the same.

I think they should still make it too, it would be great for kids and adults. But I like the way everyone looks in the series, they look nicer and more relatable to people.
