In Atlanta is an eco-conscious spa and salon for the green-minded hipster set: Aviary. At this organic beauty collective, eco-fashionistas can get organic facials, eco-friendly hair color and acupressure massages — all in a beautiful rustic chic boutique space designed to help urbanites relax.
“I think what makes our space very unique is it’s very private,” says Amy Leavell Bransford, a licensed esthetician who heads up Aviary. “People are really wanting to get out of the mall and go into a boutique environment. People really feel they’re getting something special and unique when they get here.”
That unique something isn’t just the private atmosphere. Aviary visitors also get pampered in eco-luxe style, since Amy makes no compromises when it comes to green beauty. Her environmental commitment is no surprise, since she’s the daughter of MNN co-founder Chuck Leavell!
No chemical smell greets clients at Aviary, since the boutique shuns ammonia, formaldehyde and other chemicals that could be carcinogenic or toxic. Amy’s facials use eco-friendly products like those from HollyBeth’s Natural Luxury — an Atlanta-based product line with 95 percent organic content — and Juice Beauty — an organic fruit juice-based line. All other services offered by Aviary’s collective — whether a massage, hair color, makeup application, or wax — adhere to the same healthy eco-friendly standards.
Aviary opened last September, and Atlanta eco-beauty seekers are already flocking in. “This trend is just starting to emerge, and people are becoming more and more aware,” says Amy. “I like to believe that we are providing a top-notch service, and the bonus is that we’re using products that are top-notch and good for the people and the environment.”
