Wanna be an eco-filmmaker? Now that every company’s trying to be part of both web 2.0 and the environmental movement, any environmentalist with a video camera has a whole bunch of chances to showcase her creative activism — and make money too. A few contests to check out:
>> SmartPower’s Energy Smart Ad Challenge. Submit a 30-second video showing Americans how to be smart about their energy use. The big prize: $10,000. Deadline: Earth Day 2009.
>> Just Do One Video Contest. Create a 3-minute video about your one idea for personal action towards living green. The big prize: $5,000. Deadline: March 1, 2009.
>> ABC News’ Earth 2100. Record a video dispatch from an imagined utoipian, sustainable future. The big prize: Your video could be selected “to form the backbone of ABC News’s two–hour primetime broadcast, Earth 2100. Deadline: Dec. 15, 2008.
Last but not least, student eco-filmmakers can also audition to become a student correspondent for Mother Nature Network by submitting a 2 - 4 minute video. If selected, you’ll get a Flip Ultra video camera to create your own video program or blog. Get your audition in by January 15, 2009.
