Coarse/ pickling salt is an excellent scrub for back acne and exfoliating the legs and feet, do not use it on your face. Wet the skin, sprinkle with salt massage in then warm shower.

This web site is definitely well worth checking out for more green ideas

Hey I liked your post, it's given me some great ideas!!! Care to share anymore???
Thanks again!!!

The day green products become affordable to all, not only developed countries, that day people can become "green" on what products they use. Not before. The prices on organic products are forbidding. Sorry to say it like that, but it's easier to say "go green" than do it, at least for most of the world.

Ari, being "green" is very affordable. I make all my own household cleaners, deodorant now, etc...and it is much much cheaper than buying conventional. People wrongly assume that in order to be "green", they have to buy all this expensive stuff, when the reality is, you can just as easily make it yourself for much less!

I agree, almost everything can be cleaned with basic soap and water, vinegar and baking soda. Try putting 1 cup of vinegar in your toilet before bedtime, it sparkles in the morning. Baking soda can be used to scrub almost any surface without harm, including cook tops and acrylic bathtubs.

it is the 'small things' we all do that can change things. that starts with education and information-- which is the greatest thing about the internet. thanks for lists like this that give us info on what chemicals are harming our world.

But the article specifically says that sunscreen is one of the cosmetics causing harm..... I can't seem to find a natural sunscreen with a high enough SPF to keep me from burning.... I honestly go outside so rarely that I have to take vitamin D-3 supplements....

Have you tried Arbonne's sunscreen? They have a strict purity and safety ingredient policy.

Constant use of henna will suffocate your hair, as it doesn't blend with the hair cells, but rather coats the hair. That, over time, will make your hair dry and brittle. Unfortunately, there is no natural alternative to coloring gray hair that wouldn't dry your hair or put chemicals in your body :(

Remember. You are looking for what is safe - not what is not a chemical. Chemicals are the building blocks of nature. The air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat are not just full of chemicals, they ARE chemicals.

I have been wanting to dye my hair back black and when I go to a saloon or do my hair my self I ALWAYS have an allergic reaction to the hair dye. I then heard about the henna hair dye and want to try i but I have no clue as to where I could buy it at (what stores) is there any hints that you could give me as to where to go to purchase it?

I buy mine for 6.99 at New Seasons grocery store, if you have one nearby. You can probably find it at other natural, organic, or health food stores, or indian grocery stores. I'd test it first- you can still have an allergic reaction to henna, but it is much more gentle than chamical dyes. The colors are mostly in the red-brown range- there is black, but it's pretty much just really, really dark brown.

NEVER use black henna unless it says 100% pure henna with no additives. I've read A LOT about black henna tattoos, which uses a very harsh chemical to make it black. People have had severe allergic reactions that their body takes years to recover from. Just be aware of what you are buying!

The problem with Henna is that after using it you cant use any other type of color on your hair because of the way it reacts with regular boxed or professional salon color. So once you use it your stuck with it until you cut or grow your hair out. I recommend going to a salon that offers organic color.

You should be able to get Henna powder (not shampoo) in any indian grocery store. Search for Indian stores near you. If you couldn't find, there are some grocery websites that you can buy from. Here are some

Don't believe it Danielle, without testing for yourself. I was so upset today when I heard that the "Mosque" is actually a community center that is being built 2 blocks away from ground zero and actually not AT "ground zero". A "Hidden Agenda" is the reason why Clinique is there.

i heard a whole diferent story about lips stick i was told that it came from very dirty places

It is obviously not the first time this type of articles are published on Yahoo.
For some reason the "Brands" that are a good alternative are not so easy to find and not so affordable. I really wonder why ???

I am all for using products that are non-toxic. However, keep in mind that because a product is ' all natural' or 'green' or organic, doesn't make it good for your skin or hair. For example, some hand lotions have lemon juice in them. Obviously lemon juice isn't toxic, but it can dry your skin. Peppermint isn't toxic either, but it doesn't make for healthy hair. Paula's Choice cosmetics are a good choice.

The real question is WHY are these products made in the USA with certain chemicals and the SAME product made for the EU does not have these chemicals? (because the EU bans them)

The products they have are lousy. I lived there and the products are weak and don't work.. Even the Coke is foamy.

Your post doens't make any sense. How can you say Paula isn't objective when she recommends thousands of products other than her own, that are cheaper than hers and that I can score at my local RiteAid? I never remember her saying AHAs don't work, I think youre just making things up because you don't like her. She cites the research, which is something I don't see any of in your post.

i have horrible dandruff and always have what is a natural product for that? my sister is a true believer in this and even used baking soda for deodorant.

I found out that Aloe Vera Gel 99% pure in a plastic bottle u can buy anywhere and rub it gently on your scalp where dandruff occurs and it will sting if you have been scratching it, but otherwise it will heal completely. I don't suffer from it anymore whether winter or summer.. bye bye dandruff

Apply lemon to your hair. You can also have your last hair rinse with lemon. That helps to get rid of dandruff

Aubrey has the best organic natural ingredients I have found anywhere...no chemicals whatsoever, my excema cleared up after three days after having it for 15 years when I changed everything I put in and on my body (including dish soap, don't use it if it contains tricolsan) my dermatologists were astounded. You can find Aubrey shampoo, conditioner, etc. at your health food store.

This is a bunch of BS! If you havent noticed almost EVERYTHING made in this world has drawbacks that come out YEARS after the product has been out. From food to beauty products like seriously? How many times do I come on Yahoo and see the same crap! Why make all these products when they are "toxic"? Ridiculous!

I agree. They know what their doing...making all of this stuff with toxins. It's all about greed and making money. They don't care who gets cancer or whatever else. Cancer is a money maker too. I believe wholeheartedly that there is definitely a cure for cancer but the government doesn't want us to know about it because look how much money would be lost. They're all in it together...the pharmacies, government, FDA, etc.. You name it.

you are so absolutely 100% correct, on EVERYTHING you said. and the cancer thing. just think if everyone would just do natural. no side effects from chemo, etc etc. but just think what it would do to big pharma if no one would do all the supposed cancer treatments. one could only imagine.........

Bill, you are an idiot and what's more, you are a moron. If we all did one thing to make this planet better there would be amazing changes. Try something, anything, you negatve boob.

Take whatever shampoo you're using and water it down by 50%. You'll save money, use far less shampoo, get just as clean scalp, and without any effort, cut your effect on the environment throught the use of shampoo in 1/2. Just keep your last empty bottle and fill it half way with the contents of the new bottle. Then add water.

I too have used Amway products for year. Their LOC has been around 40 years or more. It means Liquid Organic Cleanser. They were green way before someone tagged that word and made it cool and new. Organic is not new to Amway. I've seen their orchards and fields where they grow everything themselves that they put into their supplements. All natural. The LOC also happens to be a great cleaner and is so gentle, if you had to, you could brush your teeth with it. find a amway dealer and try it out.

What do you use for bathrooms? What "essential oils" do you use for household cleaning?

This is a great idea & it works, saves money, adding water to the shampoo makes it lather better & cleans the same.A very large bottle of shampoo lasts our family 7 months.

I have heard that if you do this bacteria will grow. I heard that you don't need to mix the water until you are going to use it that day. Don't know if it is true.

My daughter found this website that sells ALL NATURAL PRODUCTS.
She was really worried about SULFATES in shampoos, toothpastes, etc. The GREEN TEA SHAMPOO is AMAZING!!

I found a company that has Organic and 100% ToxicFree products which I've been using since January 2010. I LOVE the results and feel good that I now have a choice to buy safe products for me and my family. They have shampoo, skin care, baby, pet and household products. All very effective. Check them out at http://www.OrganicAndToxicFreeProducts.com. Let me know what you think.

My parents have been Amway distributors for over 30 years, and ever since I was a young child and the state of our environment was brought to the forefront I took note at the great caution Amway takes with your delicate earth. Amway has been recycling since the beginning and to this day provides the best organic products available. I am not an Amway distributor but I do use the products.

Amways products are NOT organic. And most of them dont even work. Dont get sucked into this scam. The so called leaders of this business make their money when you buy their training materials. Dont throw your money away on the products or the business.

I have very fine, curly hair and switched to baking soda & water "shampoo" a few weeks ago. I used to need tons of conditioner & leave in conditioner to get rid of the frizzies. Since I switched to baking soda, I don't need anything except just a smidgeon of jojoba oil on the very ends of my hair. My hair is bouncier and healthier than it has been in decades.

I don't know who is trying to down the AMWAY company, but, it IS a great co and there products are great, they are expensive, but well worth thew cost

You are an idiot. Why do you think people care what you think... in fact, this comment applies to everyone. The fact is, nobody cares what you think and you can't change the world, neither can the "little things you do." You are certainly not doing any good.

Every positive action has some positive effect, however small. I'm sure very few, if any, people care to hear your naysaying attitude. I may not be able to change your world, but I most certainly can always make a positive change in mine.

You are an idiot. Don't be selfish. Think!!! Every little thing we (all of us ) do help since it's every little thing we do (everyday living) that got us into this mess.

I, by accident saw your comment. I was getting on line to check something in my email and I saw your comment.. I thought I should ask ..would you be interested in knowing of a group of green products that Oprah picked a couple of years ago as her favorites and I have used them for several years?..If so let me know ..
Kathy

We love Melaleuca products at our house. Their whole grain crackers are gone as soon as I open the box, the kids love them. We also use the Herbal shampoo it is my 5 year olds top choice at bath time. My husband like you daughter quit having skin break outs after I started using their laundry soap.

We buy Melalueca all the time...the vitamins and cleaning products. That's all ur son and daughter-in-law use and just love the products.

I am allergic to alcohol (rubbing and Drinking) It is like battery acid . I have found that there is not too many rpoducts that are alcohol free. Is there someting that I can do about this problem? How can I stop the blisters in my hair and on my arms from the alcohol? Please Help

Have you tried Lavish Rose? www.lavishrose.com - it's totally in line with the philosophy here to use essential oils instead of synthetic ingredients - and its awesome!

Ohhh it smells awful and you need to wash your hair a few times to get the smell out..besides you pillow stinks too

You can use apple cider vinegar, but it must be very diluted...using it straight is too strong...rinse with cool water, it won't smell bad then and give you great shine!

well there are many things for you skin beauty but not all are worth using ,, i have seen a good information here on this site and another one which i will like to share www.skincare4style.com its a nice site for great info...

I'm becoming a fan of the "no poo" approach to hair care, using baking soda solution to clean and apple cider vinegar rinse to make hair shiny. Granted, it works well for me because I have thick hair with lots of body and may not work so well for those with fine, thin hair...but at least that's a few less bottles of toxic chemicals washing down the drain. And my hair looks shiny, healthy and not at all greasy or dirty.

There are lot's of great cleansing products out there for our tresses that don't have sodium laureth sulfates, and alkiholl. be a label reader if it has SLF'S in it don't buy it. They strip your hair of oils, and are very harsh industrial cleaners. Health food stores like Whole Foods should have what you want . Remember , we don't need suds to have a good shampoo. Have you seen the WEN ads on TV? Shaklee is also a good brand, so is Nutrilite products from Amway.
