I knew sea otters were smart animals that can use tools — but I didn’t realize baby sea otters were so cute! Meet Kit, a very cute 11-week-old sea otter pup, now at the Monterey Bay Aquarium!

Kit was found stranded in Morro Bay by a sea otter biologist with the California Department of Fish and Game. After unsuccessful attempts to reunite her with her mother, Kit is now the youngest animal in the Monterey Bay Aquarium's sea otter exhibit.

Watch Kit while she’s still small and cute on the Aquarium’s Otter Cam — or follow her progress on the Aquarium’s blog, Sea Notes. Kit currently hangs out with 9-year-old resident sea otter Mae, to be later joined by the other exhibit sea otters if all goes well.

Kit is not a candidate for return to the wild, but the Aquarium’s Sea Otter Research and Conservation program does care for other stranded sea otter pups and injured adults in off-exhibit holding pools to keep them wild for future release.
