Not all mules are sterile. Tho rare, colts have been born from the mating of a pure breed male horse and a female mule. (I once read it could be as high as 1 in 25 female mules could be fertile....tho I highly doubt the number is that high.) However, I've never heard of a second generation hi-bryd producing offspring. If the same is true for mixing of bears, without very speedy evolution, successful breeding wouldn't last past the second generation hi-bryd. That's just my guess.... More

but are they fertile?
just because they can interbreed doesn't mean they can be perpetuated. mules are sterile. are any of these crosses old enough so that we know if they are sterile or fertile?
