This goes far beyond what there eating....these are role models for America. We have become so obscenely wasteful that no one seems to care or notice. Not so long in our American history we didn't produce that much household waste..things were in jars, and cloth bags..people act like it's a mystery to do so! Argg..deep breath.. Ok..so really it's just being AWARE and SMART and RESOURCEFUL again. We are fed so much waste products from stores that we don't consider the pounds of needless waste. It's

I commend the family's efforts but it does seem paradoxal that when you are trying to reduce your carbon footprint you keep animal products in the diet, the biggest source of greenhouse gased in the world. Surely they know that.

Surely you noticed they have 2 kids. A healthy diet for children includes some meat. When they will grow up, they can make that kind of choice for themselves - becoming vegetarians or whatever they like. But until then, a parent's responsibility is to make sure their kids have a healthy diet. And the Johnsons do a great job, don't you think?

Humans are meat eaters. Now before getting huffy, I'm married to a vegetarian and I get it. I don't think its fair to ask an herbivore to remove meat completely from their diet as that is a personal choice. But less consumption-and I mean a LOT LESS-would do everyone some good. Considering that this family buys from a butcher, the chances are that butcher buy local, there is less packaging, and their carbon footprint even for meat consumption would probably not even make a sizeable dent in their
