Since last month I’ve been getting a flood of holiday sale e-mails from green businesses with great coupon codes. I thought about compiling them all — and kept thinking about it until other people compiled them for me!
The best lists actually come from Green America and Fair Trade Federation, both eco-ethical organizations that seek to put more consumer dollars towards for a more environmentally conscious and just society. Their membership base is made up of eco-ethical companies, so it’s no surprise that their gift guides feature some of the greenest products out there.
Green America’s 2010 Holiday Green Gift Guide
features deals and steals on eco-friendly goods and services from its member companies. Find coupons for $5 off fair trade treats from Equal Exchange, 15 percent off organic clothes from bgreen Apparel, 5 percent off flowers from Organic Bouquet, and a lot more.
If you’ve got crunchier tastes, browse Fair Trade Federation’s 2010 Gift Guide
. It’s only available in an annoying PDF format, but that guide is full of coupon codes for handmade eco-friendly items crafted by fair trade artisans. Get 15 percent off holiday decorations at Maya Works or veggie-dyed fashions from Marigold Fair Trade Clothing.
I actually haven't even started thinking about shopping for holiday gifts this year. Since I'm against giving junky token gifts to acquaintances, my list of giftees is always quite short — short enough that procrastinating on holiday shopping until the last minute actually ends up working out just fine. What about you? Are you busily snapping up green gifts — or celebrating a Buy Nothing Christmas?
