What did you do to celebrate Earth Day? The greenest day of the year started early for me, when I woke up at the crack of dawn to head over to the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles for a big Earth Day announcement. The big news: A whole bunch of concrete and asphalt is going to be ripped out of the area, to create 3.5 acres of urban outdoor natural space and hands-on learning exhibits! I took a photo of one rendering, above.
Then I went up to Los Angeles’ Koreatown for the Wilshire Center Earth Day. There I heard local bands, smelled local chanterelles (above), and watched people make off with free tree saplings to plant in their yards (below).
Best of all, I got a bargain on local, organic oranges from the people at Jae Il Farm, who came down from San Bernardino for the event.
Once I got back home, I was unable to resist the oranges --
In the evening, I walked over to Green Lounge Celebration and Awards, an eco-luxe event in Santa Monica. There I watched green-clad aerielists perform, ate organic pizza from Pizza Fusion — and in real L.A. style, drank wheatgrass cocktails made with 360 vodka — in a biodegradable cup.
