Halloween’s a weird day for me because the day after is my birthday — but this year I’ve actually decorated my apartment, putting up traditional Papel Picado Mexican party streamers from a Fair Trade Halloween Action kit I bought years ago — and a blue skull I crocheted  a while back. If you’re getting ready for Halloween too, here are some tips to keep the ghoulish holiday green — and deals to help you save green:

>> Make fun and funky Halloween decor — using upcycled materials to save money and resources. Re-Nest’s put together a creative list of pretty-looking items.

>> Face masks are scary in more ways than one. Eco-health nonprofit Environmental Working Group urges you to rethink synthetic face masks and teeth made with questionable materials — and try making your own instead! Find out more about that tip and 7 more tips to green your Halloween at EWG.

>> Reusable Trick-or-Treat bags are the way to go, urges Sierra Club’s Green Life blog.

>> You can also save money on kids’ Halloween costumes with a costume swap, MNN’s family blogger Jenn Savedge reminds us.

>> Get 20% off fair trade and organic Halloween candy at Kate’s Caring Gifts. Use the code HALLOW2010 at checkout.

>> Pledge to green your Halloween for a chance to win a $150 gift certificate from HolidayLEDs.com. This way your green Halloween will help you prep for green winter holidays too!
