Save a life: Donate blood today

American Red Cross sends out plea for donors as blood donations drop during the holiday season.

My agenda for the next two weeks:

Finish holiday shopping
Make gingerbread houses with my kids
Make a dentist appointment
Save a life

Yup, you read that right. So just how do I plan to save a life? I'm a blood donor, and every time I donate, at least one life is saved.

The American Red Cross is always begging for folks to become blood donors, but they've put out a special call for help during the holidays. This is the time of year when they need blood the most, and it's also the time when blood donations are at their lowest.

I know how it is: You're busy. You're traveling. You don't have time to squeeze even one more thing into your already overpacked agenda. But isn't saving a life worth taking 15 minutes out of your day?

Are you worried about the scary needles? Trust me, I am no fan of those sharp pointy buggers, but I promise you that the sting only lasts a second. If you have been through childbirth, or heck if you've coped with a hangnail, you can certainly handle this.

Add it to your holiday to-do list this year and make sure it gets done. Talk about holiday spirit! You will feel like a million bucks knowing that you are helping to save a life this holiday season!
