Sam Berns suffered from progeria, a disease that causes rapid aging, but he had a positive outlook on life that encouraged those around him and inspired the HBO documentary "Life According to Sam," which documented his life with what is formally called Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome.

The 17-year-old, who passed away on Jan. 10, was passionate about living life to the fullest, and he gave a TEDx Talk in October about his philosophy. Watch the video to learn the principles that guided an inspiring life.
